Attracting its 13,453rd member at about 11 EST tonight, a group dedicated to protesting Barack Obama's stand on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act became the largest group on MyBarackObama.com, the campaign's own social-networking site. The campaign is reportedly set to issue some sort of a response tomorrow morning.

We ask the question that has been bumping around ever since Republican presidential candidate John McCain described himself as computer "illiterate" -- In 2008, does a U.S. need to personally understand how to use email, search engines, and other basic online tools and platforms on order to be an effective leader? I'm here at PdF '08 at a press conference marking the launch of InternetforEveryone.com, a coalition pushing for universal high-speed Internet, centered around four core tenets: access, choice, openness, and innovation. The unveiling of the broadband effort was a unique opportunity to witness some pretty, ehem, prolific talkers from the worlds of academia, advocacy, and business strictly held to just one or two minutes, and so I've tried to capture their mico-arguments in favor of universal broadband here.
