It all started when “Obama Girl” got more attention in the post-CNN/YouTube debate “spin room” than Joe Biden. Radio and TV host Tavis Smiley is teaming up with American Blog to sponsor and moderate an "All-American Presidential Forum" (it's not a debate) with the Democratic candidates on June 28th at Howard Univiersity. The forum will be held at Howard University, and while the panel of journalists ("a panel exclusively comprised of journalists of color") will pose the questions, AmericanBlog will be hosting an online forum for viewers, but it's unclear what role this online forum will be take. In a press release, Smiley says that "as the candidates express their positions and discuss the issues, the American public can join American Blog's community of bloggers and engage in the discussion as it unfolds." Will this take place onscreen? Will the candidates respond to viewer questions? Or will viewers only have the chance to "express their positions and discuss the issues" with each other in a kind of chat back-channel? We'll have to wait and see. A Republican forum is scheduled for September 27th.
